Equipment

  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Hand mixer or stand mixer
  • Sharp chef’s knife
  • Wooden cutting board
  • Silicone spatula
  • Serving bowl

Ingredients

  • Cream cheese – 8 ounces, softened to room temperature
  • Sour cream – 1/2 cup, or plain Greek yogurt
  • Green olives with pimentos – 1 cup, finely chopped
  • Black olives – 1/2 cup, finely chopped
  • Green onions – 1/4 cup, finely sliced
  • Garlic – 1 clove, minced
  • Olive juice – 1 tablespoon, from the jar
  • Garlic powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper – 1/4 teaspoon

Instructions

Soften the Cream Cheese

  • Place your cream cheese on the counter for about thirty minutes before you start. It needs to be soft so that you can whip it easily. If it is too cold, your dip will end up lumpy.

Beat the Base Ingredients

  • Put the softened cream cheese and sour cream into your mixing bowl. Use your hand mixer to beat them together until the mixture is completely smooth and fluffy. This should take about two minutes.

Chop the Fresh Olives

  • Place both types of olives on your cutting board. Use a sharp knife to chop them into very small pieces. You want tiny bits of olive in every single bite of your dip.

Fold in the Mix-ins

  • Add the chopped olives, green onions, and minced garlic to your whipped cream cheese. Use a silicone spatula to gently fold everything together. Make sure the ingredients are evenly distributed throughout.

Add the Seasonings

  • Pour in the olive juice, garlic powder, and black pepper. Stir the dip one final time to combine all the savory flavors. Taste it to see if you want to add more olive juice.

Chill and Serve

  • Transfer the dip into your favorite serving bowl. Cover it and place it in the fridge for at least one hour. This chilling time helps the delicious flavors blend together perfectly.

Notes

Use full-fat cream cheese: This gives the dip its signature rich texture and prevents it from becoming runny.Add some heat: Stir in a pinch of red pepper flakes or chopped jalapeños for a spicy kick.Try different olives: You can use Kalamata olives to give the dip a deeper, more robust Mediterranean flavor.Incorporate fresh herbs: Stir in a tablespoon of fresh dill or parsley for a bright, herbaceous finish.Toasted nut topper: Sprinkle chopped, toasted walnuts on top right before serving to add a wonderful crunchy element.Always store your leftover dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days. Do not freeze.
