Equipment

  • A sturdy cutting board
  • A sharp chef's knife
  • A large glass mixing bowl
  • A small glass mixing bowl
  • A kitchen whisk
  • Measuring cups and measuring spoons
  • A large mixing spoon
  • A vegetable peeler

Ingredients

  • English cucumbers – 4 large, sliced into thin coins
  • Premium sour cream – 0.5 cup
  • Real mayonnaise – 0.25 cup
  • Rice vinegar – 2 tablespoons
  • Granulated white sugar – 1 tablespoon
  • Everything bagel seasoning – 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Onion powder – 0.5 teaspoon
  • Sea salt – 0.5 teaspoon
  • Cracked black pepper – 0.25 teaspoon
  • Fresh dill – 0.25 cup, finely chopped
  • Toasted sesame seeds – 2 tablespoons

Instructions

1. Slice the Cucumbers

  • Wash your English cucumbers thoroughly under cold running water and dry them with a clean towel. Place them on your cutting board and slice them into thin, even coins using your sharp chef's knife.

2. Draw Out Moisture

  • Place the sliced cucumbers into a colander and sprinkle them lightly with a pinch of sea salt. Let them sit for five minutes, then gently pat them dry with a clean paper towel to remove water.

3. Mix the Dressing

  • Whisk the sour cream, mayonnaise, rice vinegar, and white sugar together in your small glass mixing bowl. Stir the mixture vigorously until the sugar dissolves completely and the dressing looks perfectly smooth and creamy.

4. Add the Seasonings

  • Measure the everything bagel seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt, and black pepper into the dressing. Whisk everything together thoroughly so the savory spices are evenly distributed throughout the creamy sauce.

5. Combine the Ingredients

  • Transfer your dried cucumber slices into the large glass mixing bowl so you have plenty of room. Pour the seasoned creamy dressing directly over the top of the cucumbers using a rubber spatula.

6. Toss the Salad

  • Use your large mixing spoon to gently fold the cucumbers into the creamy dressing until coated. Make sure every single cucumber slice is completely covered in the delicious, savory sauce for maximum flavor.

7. Garnish and Chill

  • Sprinkle the finely chopped fresh dill and toasted sesame seeds generously over the top of the salad. Place the bowl in the refrigerator for ten minutes to chill completely before serving it cold.

Notes

  • Use English cucumbers or Persian cucumbers because they have very thin skins and very few seeds inside.
  • Do not skip drawing out the moisture from the cucumbers or your salad dressing will become watery.
  • Swap the sour cream for plain Greek yogurt if you want to add extra protein to this dish.
  • Add a splash of hot sriracha sauce to the dressing if you prefer a fiery kick.
  • Toss in some thinly sliced red onions or crumbled feta cheese for extra color and tangy flavor.
  • Store any leftover salad inside a tightly sealed airtight container in your home refrigerator and enjoy within 24–48 hours.
