Equipment

  • Large roasting pan
  • Sharp knife
  • Basting brush
  • Mixing bowl
  • Aluminum foil
  • Meat thermometer
  • Spoon or whisk

Ingredients

  • 1 fully cooked ham, about 2.5 to 3 kg
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

Instructions

Prepare the oven

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C. Place the ham in a roasting pan and cover loosely with foil to keep it moist while heating and warming evenly.

Make the glaze

  • In a bowl, mix honey, mustard, brown sugar, vinegar, garlic powder, pepper, and paprika. Stir well until the glaze becomes smooth, glossy, and evenly combined.

Score the ham

  • Use a sharp knife to make shallow cuts across the surface of the ham. Create a diamond pattern so the glaze can soak in better.

Heat the ham

  • Place the covered ham in the oven and let it warm for about one hour. This step ensures the inside heats properly before adding glaze.

Add the glaze

  • Remove the foil carefully and brush a thick layer of glaze over the ham. Cover all sides well, then return it to the oven uncovered.

Baste and finish

  • Every 10 to 15 minutes, brush more glaze over the ham. This builds layers of flavor while the surface turns golden, sticky, and beautifully caramelized.

Rest before serving

  • Take the ham out of the oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes. This helps juices settle before slicing and serving warm.

Notes

  • Use whole grain mustard for extra texture and flavor
  • Add a splash of orange juice for a citrus twist
  • Do not skip resting time to keep the ham juicy
  • Baste often for a rich, caramelized glaze
  • Serve with potatoes, vegetables, or fresh salad
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days
  • Reheat gently in the oven with extra glaze to keep moist
