Equipment

  • Large skillet or frying pan
  • Mixing bowl
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Garlic press optional
  • Tongs or spatula
  • Serving plate

Ingredients

  • Boneless chicken breasts – 4
  • Olive oil – 3 tablespoons
  • Garlic cloves – 5, minced
  • Large lemon – 1, juiced
  • Lemon zest – 1 teaspoon
  • Dried oregano – 1 teaspoon
  • Dried thyme – 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper – ½ teaspoon
  • Chicken broth – ½ cup
  • Fresh parsley – 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Lemon slices, for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the chicken

  • Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Season both sides with salt, black pepper, paprika, oregano, and thyme. Let the chicken sit briefly so the seasonings begin to flavor the meat.

Heat the olive oil

  • Place a large skillet over medium heat and add olive oil. Allow the oil to warm for about a minute until it lightly shimmers. Properly heated oil helps the chicken cook evenly and develop a golden crust.

Cook the chicken

  • Carefully place the seasoned chicken breasts into the warm skillet. Cook for about six to seven minutes on each side until golden brown. Avoid moving the chicken often so a flavorful crust forms.

Add garlic

  • Lower the heat slightly and add the minced garlic around the chicken pieces in the skillet. Stir gently so the garlic cooks without burning. Cook for about one minute until fragrant and aromatic.

Add lemon and broth

  • Pour fresh lemon juice and chicken broth into the skillet. Sprinkle lemon zest over the chicken and gently spoon some of the liquid over the top so the bright lemon garlic flavor begins coating the chicken.

Simmer the sauce

  • Allow the chicken to simmer gently in the lemon garlic sauce for about five minutes. The sauce will slightly thicken while keeping the chicken moist and helping it absorb the fresh citrus flavor.

Finish with herbs

  • Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the chicken for color and freshness. Add a few lemon slices to the skillet for garnish and an extra hint of citrus aroma before serving the finished dish.

Serve and enjoy

  • Transfer the cooked chicken to a serving plate and spoon extra lemon garlic sauce from the skillet over the top. Serve warm with rice, roasted vegetables, or fresh salad for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Use fresh lemon juice for the brightest flavor.
  • Chicken thighs can be used instead of breasts for a juicier result.
  • Serve with rice, couscous, roasted vegetables, or a Greek style salad.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat gently in a skillet with a splash of broth to keep the chicken moist.
