  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Rice cooker or saucepan
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Wooden spoon
  • Fork
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board

Ingredients

  • 3 cups cooked sushi rice
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pound cooked salmon, flaked
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sriracha
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons furikake seasoning
  • 1 avocado, diced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • nori sheets, for serving

Instructions

Prepare the Sushi Rice

  • Cook the sushi rice according to package directions if it is not already prepared. In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Stir this mixture into the warm rice until evenly combined.

Prepare the Baking Dish

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish. Spread the seasoned rice evenly across the bottom. Press gently with the back of a spoon to create a smooth layer.

Make the Salmon Mixture

  • Place the cooked salmon in a large bowl. Add cream cheese, mayonnaise, sriracha, sliced green onions, and soy sauce. Mix everything together until creamy and well combined. The mixture should be smooth and easy to spread.

Assemble the Bake

  • Spread the salmon mixture evenly over the rice layer. Make sure every corner is covered. Sprinkle furikake seasoning over the top. This adds extra flavor and gives the bake its classic sushi-inspired taste.

Bake Until Hot

  • Place the baking dish into the preheated oven. Bake for about 20 to 25 minutes. The top should look lightly golden and the mixture should be hot throughout when finished.

Add Fresh Toppings

  • Carefully remove the dish from the oven. Let it cool for a few minutes. Top with diced avocado, sesame seeds, and sliced green onions. These toppings add freshness and texture.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Scoop portions onto small pieces of nori. Fold the seaweed around the sushi bake and enjoy. Each bite delivers creamy salmon, seasoned rice, and crunchy toppings in perfect balance.

Notes

  • Use fresh salmon for the best flavor.
  • Add extra sriracha for more heat.
  • Try imitation crab for a different version.
  • Use Japanese mayonnaise for richer flavor.
  • Add cucumber for extra crunch.
  • Top with spicy mayo before serving.
  • Serve with miso soup, cucumber salad, or edamame.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat at 325°F or microwave individual portions for 1 to 2 minutes.
